San Antonio born and bred transsexual bombshell Cheri Baum tells it how it is. She spoke with us candidly about finding her identity deep in the heart of Texas, developing her career and making a life for herself with cherries on top.
Eros Zine: Where did you grow up and what was it like for you, a budding, beautiful transsexual?
CB: I grew up in San Antonio TX.. Being a very androgynous boy, I had a lot of female admirers from a very young age. Growing up with an older sister and a single mother, femininity was all I ever really knew. Being surrounded by girls my entire elementary experience, the desire to act and be a female just came naturally. Rather than having physical interest in genetic females, I was attracted to the beauty and feminine characteristics of women.
It was never easy growing up surrounded by girls, because it made the boys mad. That's what started the name calling. Before I knew what the words meant, I was called every derogatory name for homosexual you can think of. People can be so cruel! I had a very traumatic and unhappy childhood in school. So when I was old enough to get a GED, I did. I wish I had actually graduated from high school, but circumstances just didn't allow it. After leaving high school, my life changed, and I'm happy to say, it couldn't be any better!
EZ: Where do you live now? What's a night on the town like for you?
CB: Currently my home base is San Antonio TX. Although right now I'm doing my Cheri's On Top Tour with my new sidekick Crystal Baum (who is traveling with me). We are hitting every major city US city...
With this opportunity to travel the U.S. I get to check out the nightlife in a lot of different places. Having lived in Ohio for the majority of my transsexual career, I found that in some cities, transsexuals are a real big TREAT with cherries on top!!! So going out for me anywhere is pretty much a great experience. The girls and the transsexual admirers in each city I've visited have been very welcoming and supportive. Not to mention the hot sex that comes along with my adventures!
EZ: When did you officially become Cheri Baum?
CB: The name Cherry Bomb came Kitty Devino, a very prominent personality in the southwest who has transformed and shaped many top divas and who has literally made them what they are today. Although I don't owe her anything for my body, I do give her props for my name. It is hot! As you can see I changed the spelling and the rest is HERstory, as they say! I plan on updating Cheri Baum as often as the doctors allow it. There's always room for updating. No ones perfect!
EZ: You make a very glamorous as Marilyn Monroe! Do you have any other favorite celebrity impersonations?
CB: Well, growing up gay, I never understood the fascination with Marilyn. I thought she was fat, ugly and rather plain looking until a friend turned me on to one of her movies and I fell in love. I love her personality, her femininity and her beauty. She truly is timeless, which is what I hope to achieve one day. Hopefully people will recognize that before I overdose on pills too. [Laughs]
I love to impersonate all the classics like Cher, Madonna, Britney, Christina Aguilera. Dolly Parton is one I would like to achieve next! I love Dolly, she's such a tranny! I'm quite a chameleon, and staying with one look or character just gets boring.
There's no standard when it comes to transsexuals. You don't have to pass as a female all the time (which is often the stereotype associated amongst transsexuals). Being a transsexual and being able to "transform" should be fun. So what if you look like a celebrity for the night? Its fun. Drag is how we all started dabbing into our new selves anyway.
Cheri Baum is my favorite celebrity impersonation. To me, Cheri Baum is different from who I am outside the internet and adult business. Cheri and cheri are two totally different people. Getting dressed as Cheri gives my naughty, kinky side an outlet to express who and what she is. cheri just wants to relax, be with one man and "live happily ever after."
EZ: Do you do live show performances? How often and what are they like?
CB: I really only do "private shows." I do these shows pretty much regularly when the opportunity arises [grin]. I think they are very relaxing and a fun time for both of us. Most men leave with a different appreciation for what a real transsexual experience should be like. I don't toot my own horn, the men do it for me!! [Laughs]
EZ: When did you launch Cheri-Baum.com, and how has it changed your career?
CB: Well my official web site was re-launched early this year after a year of reproduction. I did have a lower budget website about two years ago with an disreputable business that basically robbed me blind. I'm glad to be back on track with my new web site that I have 100% control and management over. Everything down to the cherry on top I oversaw. I couldn't be any more satisfied with it.
Not only did my webmaster do a great job, but the response has been overwhelming. My site, is my baby and main focus right now. It may seem a bit pretentious that I would open a site featuring me as the main feature, but it's nice to know that out there somewhere, even if it's thousands of miles away, someone thinks you're beautiful and enough so to deposit $14.95 a month into my college funds.
EZ: You have your first DVD slated to be released soon. Tell me about it. Will there be more for you?
CB: This is something I'm excited to talk about. I always wondered how those girls did it, got into the porn business. I thought it was something only done in LA, but with the internet, I saw that it could be done much easier.
It will be a series featuring me getting all kinds of nasty with men, women and T-girls... I don't want to give out the title yet because its not official, but I will say that the men who purchase the video will not feel left out by pretty, well- toned, jock boys under the age of 35.
After checking out my site you will see that it's not pretentious, flaky glamour, and I'm not afraid to get my pretty little face messed up with make-up! Because my web site is so fresh and brand new, it still gives me a chance to tweak and change the site till I find my little niche in this kinky fetish world. So my site will be forever changing, only to get better with lots more in store for everyone.
EZ: What's next for you?
CB: Money, success, fame, glamour and a few more surgeries soon. And NO, the best part of me won't be taken away!
